180th Anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev’s Birth

On August 10th, a solemn ceremony was held in Almaty to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Kazakh poet, thinker, and educator Abai Kunanbayev. The event at Abai Square became the centerpiece of the celebratory program, attracting over 5,000 participants.

The ceremony was attended by the city mayor Darkhan Satibaldy, maslikhat deputies, members of the Public Council, representatives of the intellectual community, creative and cultural organizations, as well as youth. Participants laid flowers at the monument of the great thinker to pay tribute to his memory. Hundreds of roses were placed at the foot of the monument.

City residents and guests performed Abai’s legendary works “Zhelsiz Tünde Zharyq Ai” and “Kozimnin Karasy,” accompanied by the “Otyrar Sazy” orchestra, the State Choir Capella named after Baykadamov, and the choir of students from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. KazNU students also took part and left the event with positive impressions.
