Academic Mobility in China: New Knowledge and Unique Experience

19 марта, 2025

I, Bolatbek Zhanerke, a third-year student at Oriental Studies faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh national university, came to the city of Lanzhou for a year as part of the academic mobility program. For me, this is not only an opportunity to receive an education in a new country but also a chance to immerse myself in the culture, adapt to a new environment, and challenge myself in new conditions.

My main goal is to learn the Chinese language. The study program was very interesting and well-structured. During the lessons, I worked with experienced teachers, which helped me improve my grammar and expand my vocabulary. Additionally, daily communication and practical assignments significantly accelerated my language learning process. The university also organized various language adaptation courses and additional classes, which were very helpful. Besides studying, Lanzhou University provided me with the opportunity to actively participate in cultural events. I attended classes on traditional Chinese arts, calligraphy, and tea ceremonies. This was not only a way to get acquainted with the culture but also an excellent opportunity to make new friends among local students. Communicating with them helped me improve my language skills and gain a deeper understanding of the lifestyle of the Chinese people.

In my free time, I tried to travel to other cities. I visited historically and modernly significant cities such as Chengdu and Dujiangyan and got to know China’s rich history and culture. Each city left a special impression: the giant pandas of Chengdu, the ancient irrigation system of Dujiangyan – all of this expanded my understanding of China. Traveling was not only an educational experience but also a way to enhance my language skills, as I was exposed to different dialects and communicated with local residents.

The time I spent in China became an invaluable life and academic experience for me. I not only learned the Chinese language but also made new friends and became part of a new culture. This academic mobility program not only enriched my knowledge but also broadened my perspective on the future. Studying in Lanzhou exceeded all my expectations, and I can confidently say that this period has been one of the most significant and unforgettable moments in my life.
