Competition between foreign students "I already speak Russian"

At the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi, great attention has always been paid to the quality of education, the quality of education of our students. This is especially true for foreign students, as in a relatively short period of time – one academic year – the teachers of the Department of Language and General Education for Foreigners at the Faculty of Pre-University Education must provide students from various countries with basic, solid, stable, and robust knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, as well as the ability to speak the language correctly, clearly, and fluently. Our faculty and department have their own specific features that must be taken into account in order for our work to be productive and effective. Therefore, as part of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 4 – Quality Education, the curators held an open curatorial hour with their students – a competition between students “I already speak Russian”, which was very lively, dynamic, fun and in high spirits. The curators held a game – to speak only in Russian, not to say a single word in Chinese. The students played, competed among themselves – who knows the grammar better? The teacher threw the ball and asked questions – first, it was necessary to form the plural of nouns, then the teacher called out nouns, and the students, while hitting the ball, chose adjectives and pronouns to them. For example, the teacher: “Shop” – student: “Shops”; the teacher: “What kind of shops?” – student: “Big shops”; the teacher: “Whose shops?” – student: “Our shops”. These are not the answers of a single student, but rather the teacher asking each question and throwing the ball to different students. The Chinese students tried to get to know each other and make jokes in Russian, but it was still a bit difficult for them and they didn't fully understand everything. The students enjoyed this form of grammar reinforcement and expressed their desire to meet again in the future to show how much they had improved their Russian speaking skills. Learning a foreign language requires both the teacher and the students to put in daily effort and concentration, not only during class but also outside of it.
