ISSUES OF KAZAKH GRAPHICS AND ORTHOGRAPHY WERE DISCUSSED AT KAZNU

A round table meeting on the topic “Modern Kazakh Language: Graphics and Orthography” was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The purpose of the round table is to discuss the issues of graphics and spelling of the modern Kazakh and to introduce the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet.

Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted in his speech that successful experience has been accumulated, the linguistic base of the new alphabet and its spelling rules have been worked out. At the same time, there are a number of problems that have not yet been solved and require special attention of scientists.

As is well known, in 2022, scientists of the A. Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics completed the development of a new spelling dictionary of the Kazakh language based on the Latin alphabet, and also conducted creation of a frequency dictionary.

In connection with the acquirement of the status of a research university and the opening of the Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies, it became necessary to combine efforts of various specialists on this issue.

The meeting at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University within the framework of the round table gave an opportunity to discuss the draft of the improved alphabet, to determine the criteria for assessing the quality of the Latin alphabet, to discuss the problems of switching to the Latin alphabet.
