EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the II International Winter PR School within the framework of the International Mother Tongue Day, organized by the UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications of the Faculty of Journalism together with the UNESCO Department of Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography (February 21 - March 4, 2023).

The main purpose of this event is an in-depth acquaintance of teachers, students, undergraduates with the goals and principles of sustainable development and current trends in the development of PR technologies.

The head of the department, N.T. Shyngysova, spoke about the UN goals in the field of sustainable development, about the integration of media literacy into educational processes. The speaker also noted that the international winter school is a dialogue platform where participants can not only share their experience, but also discuss topical topics. The UNESCO Department of Journalism and Communications also regularly conducts visiting schools on media and information literacy, thereby helping people understand the role of the media in building views on reality.

The conference participants highly appreciated the work of the winter school and stressed in their speeches the importance and necessity of holding such events. Indeed, in the context of a new information culture, media literacy is a key factor in the development of modern society. The classes were conducted by experts and media coaches in the field of communication and PR, editors-in-chief and experienced journalists of leading media.
