On November 20 and 22, webinars were held dedicated to one of the most relevant topics of discussion in the field of education today – the use of generative artificial neural networks (GenAI).
GenAI is a branch of artificial intelligence that focuses on creating new content. Using machine learning models, GenAI is able to generate data that can be surprisingly similar to those created by humans.
With the development of GenAI, it is important to understand its potential opportunities and threats to higher education. GenAI is able to automate routine tasks, provide personalized learning, improve assessment methods and feedback between students and teachers, make decisions based on data analysis and improve over time. However, GenAI can also lead to a deterioration in the quality of teaching and learning if you rely only on it and do not develop your own ideas, solutions and tasks.
At the same time, abandoning the use of GenAI or setting a complete restriction may indeed be a suboptimal decision in the field of higher education. Especially considering that in almost all fields of activity, students will need skills and competencies involving the use of artificial intelligence systems. Therefore, the issue of timely training on their effective application is the most relevant for both students and teachers and administrative staff.
