Simon Serovajsky – Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1994), Professor (1996); teaches at the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of al-Farabi KazNU.

Born on August 22, 1954 in Alma-Ata. After graduating with a gold medal from secondary school №25 in 1971, he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University.

In 1976, upon completion of his studies, he was left at the university as a junior researcher in the problem laboratory of mathematical modeling.

In 1983 S. Serovajsky defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences on the topic “Variational inequalities in optimal control problems” at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1986 he was awarded the academic title of associate professor.

In 1994, at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan S. Serovajsky defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on the topic “Extended differentiation and optimal control in nonlinear problems of mathematical physics.”

S. Serovajsky twice headed departments at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of KazNU: in 1995-1997 – applied mathematics, and in 2009-2011 – control theory.

In 1996-2002 Professor Serovajsky was a member and deputy chairman of the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the years, he was a member of two Dissertation Councils for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, including the deputy chairman of one of them, as well as three doctoral Dissertation Councils.

S. Serovajsky has repeatedly led scientific, scientific-production, educational projects that meet the needs of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Mathematical modeling and optimization of oil pumping processes for the Uzen-Guriev-Kuibyshev oil pipeline”, “Automation of the design of information and computing systems for environmental problems”, “Development of a computer database for the industrial waste inventory of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, etc.). In 2002-2004 Professor Serovajsky was the head of the International educational project “Development of Curriculum for Master Degree Program in Computer Science and Computerbased Learning in the Institute of Mechanics and Mathematics at al-Farabi Kazakh National University” under the European Union Tempus-Tacis program.

The list of scientific and scientific-methodological works of the scientist includes about 350 titles.

He is the author of 15 monographs published in Russian, Kazakh and English in Kazakhstan, Russia, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

In accordance with the agreement with the British branch of the large American publishing house CRC Press. Taylor and Francis Group (LLC, State of Delaware limited liability company, Boca Raton, Florida, USA) S. Serovajsky published the monograph “Optimization and Differentiation” in 2017. Among his works, a special place is occupied by the monograph “Reflections on Mathematics and Its History,” published in 2015.

Under the leadership of Professor Serovajsky, 9 dissertations were defended for the academic degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, as well as dissertations for the scientific degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
