Vernensky Orphanage

On April 17, 2024, in order to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), students of the Law Faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University established the Vernensky Orphanage in Almaty. The Vernensky Orphanage was opened in 1878. The building was built in 1892 by architect Paul Gourdet. The building housed the Temple of the Vernensky Orphanage. According to some reports, from 1879 to 1904, 260 orphans received upbringing and primary education in it. Under Soviet rule, various state institutions were located in the building of the former orphanage: in 1929 – Kaztsik, Council of People's Commissars, Gosplan KASSR. At a later time, it was the Children's Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 1. From 1981 to 2016, it was the City Medical School. Now the building houses the Museum of Almaty
