Fantasies in motion: "Ruslan and Lyudmila" in animation (more than a fairy tale)
On September 10, 2024, there was an an event dedicated to A.S. Pushkin’s 225th anniversary at the Center for Russian language and culture at the Faculty of Philology.
T.V. Zubkova, the representative of Rosssotrudnichestvo in Almaty city, told the audience about the aim of this event. The given event was aimed at to acquainting the audience with the animated adaptation of "Ruslan and Lyudmila" classic poem by A.S. Pushkin and developing an interest in literary heritage through modern media art.
The students plunged into the magical world of A.S. Pushkin's heroic poem through the prism of animated art.
After watching the film, there was a discussion, the students expressed their opinions on how the actors and the director conveyed the key moments of the plot. They also mentioned what modern techniques were used to put the classic work to the screen.
This event not only introduced the students to a new poem interpretation, but also helped them understand the legacy of the great writer in a new way.
During the viewing, modern animation techniques were presented: computer graphics (CGI), sel-shading (drawing style), hybrid animation, dynamic lighting, fluid modeling, smoke, facial animation and much more.
These technologies help, as students said during the discussion, rethink classic stories such as Ruslan and Lyudmila, make them accessible to a younger generation of viewers: a cultural heritage with the latest in animation.
The event was held at Al-Farabi KazNU scientific library.
The students of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign students of the Faculty of Philology participated together with the senior teacher Teacher Koylybaeva S.S.
