The forum ‘Nuclear Science and Technology’ started in KazNU
The 5th International Scientific Forum ‘Nuclear Science and Technology’ kicked off at the Farabi Library, bringing together about 300 leading scientists, engineers and experts in the field of nuclear technology from 15 countries.
The Forum has become an important event in the scientific and educational life of Kazakhstan, demonstrating its commitment to develop and support advanced research in nuclear physics and nuclear technologies.
At the opening of the plenary session with congratulatory speech were made by: Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayabek Sahiev, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science D. Akhmet-Zaki, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Work Zhamilya Aitzhanova and others.
INP Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev noted in his speech the importance of international co-operation in the field of nuclear research. He emphasised that Kazakhstan has a huge potential for further development of nuclear science, including due to its unique natural resources and powerful scientific base.
Vice-Minister D. Akhmet-Zaki emphasised the role of the State in supporting nuclear research and its importance for the future of the country. He emphasised that the development of nuclear science and technology is one of the priority areas of the state scientific policy of Kazakhstan, especially in the context of sustainable energy future and environmental security. Deputy Prime Minister also noted that Kazakhstan is actively involved in international scientific projects, including work within the framework of international organisations such as the IAEA.
Zhamilya Aitzhanova, Vice-Rector of KazNU for Scientific and Innovative Work, also spoke, noting the key role of KazNU in the development of nuclear physics in the country. ‘KazNU has been training personnel in the nuclear field for more than 60 years. For all this time more than 600 nuclear specialists have been trained, who work not only in Kazakhstan, but also in leading scientific and educational centres around the world (CERN, RIKEN, JINR, KIT, universities of the USA, France, Germany, Japan and Russia) and in international organisations (IAEA). KazNU actively participates in international initiatives and projects in the field of nuclear physics. KazNU also actively co-operates in the field of nuclear physics with universities such as MEPhI, MSU, Osaka, Hokkaido universities and others. On 12 September 2022, a branch of MEPhI was inaugurated on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU and specialists are being trained in ‘Nuclear Physics and Technology’.
The work of the forum will continue until the end of the week with panel sessions, round tables, meetings and discussions. During the forum, several memorandums of co-operation were signed between scientific institutions of Kazakhstan and foreign partners.
