On October 28, 2024, the Faculty of International Relations, Department of Diplomatic Translation, held a debate on the topic of "Religious Holidays in Kazakhstan." The event was organized by second-year students specializing in "Translation in the Field of International and Legal Relations." Participants presented engaging presentations and posters with interesting facts in anticipation of Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31. Halloween is one of the most mysterious and atmospheric holidays in the world, gaining popularity in Kazakhstan each year. In 2024, many residents of the country are once again preparing for this magical day by creating spooky costumes, organizing themed parties, and decorating their spaces in an autumnal and mystical style. Halloween in Kazakhstan is not only an opportunity for fun but also a chance to engage with global culture and embrace interesting traditions.
The discussion was divided into two groups: supporters and opponents of the holiday. Supporters argued that Halloween provides children and families with the opportunity to create costumes, express creativity, exchange cultural experiences, and expand their knowledge of the world. They emphasized that this holiday enriches the festive life of Kazakhstan. Opponents, on the other hand, pointed out the inconsistency of Halloween with national traditions and the risk of excessive commercialization, which they believe could lead to materialism among children. Additionally, concerns were raised about safety at night and that the scary themes of the holiday might cause unnecessary anxiety in young children.
