KazNU hosts summer school for young archivists

The VII International Summer School of Young Archivists dedicated to the topical issues of archives acquisition in the conditions of digital transformation started in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Summer School is an important event eagerly awaited by domestic and foreign experts. It has been held annually since 2017. It is organized jointly by the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Russian State University for the Humanities.

The International Summer School is aimed at professional development of young specialists, familiarizing them with new technologies and modern methods of archival work, development of international relations in the archival sphere.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Russian State University for the Humanities, heads of archival institutions of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan.

The forum participants were welcomed by Marina Kulagina, Consultant of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the CIS Executive Committee. "The large-scale changes taking place today in the archival business are primarily related to digitalization. Today the requirements to professional custodians of information sources - archivists - are increasing, and our countries need young, talented specialists. The organization of this kind of platform will allow them to acquire the knowledge necessary for their professional growth, expand contacts, and exchange experience," said Marina Kulagina.

Director of the agency "Uzarchiv" under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Yusupov in a video greeting expressed gratitude to the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for organizing the Summer School. "This is the most convenient platform for exchange of experience of young specialists. In the era of rapid development of information technologies, the archival sphere faces enormous challenges. The issues of storage of electronic documents, their accounting, organization of their use, ensuring their legal status have not lost their relevance. Today it is important for us to know what will be the role of archives in the process of digital transformation", - emphasized Ulugbek Mirtalibovich.

The event was also addressed by: Efim Pivovar, President of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Pavel Kyung, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Document Science and Archival Affairs, Andrei Rybakov, Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Document Science and Archival Affairs, Dulat Zhukenov, Deputy Director of the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and others.

The rich program of the three-day VII International Summer School for Young Archivists includes lectures, master classes, seminars and excursions on topical issues of modern archival and electronic document storage.

More than 100 archivists from Belarus, Italy, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tanzania, Uzbekistan, France, Italy, China, France and other regions of Kazakhstan will take part in the event.

At the end of the summer school all participants will be awarded special certificates.
