Aidanа Tokbergen, a graduate of the dual-degree program in "International Relations" completed in 2023 through a collaboration between KazNU and RUDN University, speaks with great enthusiasm about her experience. This program allowed her to study at two different universities, providing her with a multifaceted understanding of international relations and significantly expanding her knowledge and skills.
One of the main advantages of the dual-degree program is the opportunity to study in different countries. This experience enabled Aidanа to better understand the cultural, economic, and political aspects of various nations, an essential skill for a career in international relations. It also helped her build numerous valuable connections and professional contacts that could be instrumental in the future. As a result, she feels far more competitive in the job market, where employers highly value candidates with diverse educational and international experiences.
Studying in multiple countries also helped Aidanа develop critical qualities such as flexibility, adaptability, and intercultural competence. These skills are beneficial not only for professional growth but also for personal development, making the dual-degree program a rewarding pathway for achieving both professional and personal goals in international relations.
During her studies, Aidanа conducted research on the dynamics of ethnodemographic and migration processes in Central Asia. This project marked an important milestone in honing her analytical skills and professional competencies.
Aidanа recalls that while she faced some challenges during her studies, she quickly adapted to the new environment and academic system. She had to adjust to different curricula, teaching methods, and evaluation systems. However, her flexibility and ability to adapt helped her navigate these differences successfully.
Her strong language skills and friendly demeanor made it easier to interact in a multilingual environment and connect with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Additionally, her organizational skills and self-discipline ensured she was well-prepared for the logistics of relocating to another country and handling documentation.
Aidanа found the dual-degree program to be an enriching and transformative experience. The most valuable skills she gained for her career include intercultural communication, analytical thinking, multilingual proficiency, adaptability, and professional networking.
She also gained invaluable practical experience through internships in international organizations, embassies, and analytical centers. These opportunities allowed her to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts and refine her professional expertise.
Aidanа believes universities offering dual-degree programs could further enhance their appeal by ensuring clear coordination between partner institutions, offering diverse courses, creating opportunities for practical experience, and supporting students in adapting to different cultural and academic environments.
For prospective students, she advises thorough research of programs, early adaptation planning, active engagement with peers and mentors, gaining practical experience, and building professional networks.
