An informative seminar for people with disabilities was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

On February 14, 2025, the Scientific and Practical Center "Inclusive Environment" at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University together with the "Zharkent" Corporate Fund organized the informative seminar on the topic: "Right to Read." The experts from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyzstan, representatives of the state institutions, the specialists in the field of inclusion and individuals with disabilities participated in the seminar.
The seminar was opened with a welcoming speech by Almat Sabitzhanovich Nauryzbayev, the Chairman of the Central Administration of the "Kazakhstani Society of the Blind." He emphasized the importance of ensuring an access to information and highlighted the key problems in forming an inclusive society. Following this, Sabit Kurmanzhanovich Suatai, the Vice-Rector for Sustainable Social Development, and Kenzhegul Socialovich Seitzhan, a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, shared their views on enhancing inclusive education and information accessibility.
Sevеral significant presentations were delivered during the seminar. Lyazzat Moldabekovna Kaltaeva, the Chairwoman of the Inclusion Council at the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and an external advisor to the Minister of Justice, addressed the pressing issues related to building an inclusive society. Tanzaule Gabdymanapovich Serikov, a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, spoke about the importance of the Marrakesh Treaty.
Kholmakhmad Akhmadovich Tengniev, the Chairman of the "Mehrbakhsh" Association for People with Disabilities in Tajikistan, shared his experience in implementing the Marrakesh Treaty in Tajikistan and ensuring an access to information for people with disabilities. Nurilya Nurseitovna Sarybayeva from Kyrgyzstan spoke about the ABC Consortium project aimed at developing inclusive libraries.
A key part of the seminar was a presentation by Gaini Orazbekovna Tazhina, Director of the "Inclusive Environment" Scientific and Practical Center at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. She discussed the ongoing efforts to develop an inclusive environment at the university.
Technological development and information accessibility were also in focus. Marlen Jakupov, the representative of the Kazakh Society of the Blind, shared his experience in using information technologies for visually impaired individuals. Ziyat Abdykaimov, an expert in assistive technologies and accessibility at Nazarbayev University, outlined development goals and perspectives up to 2025.
At the end of the seminar, Kassyet Omarova, an advisor to the mayor of Almaty on disability issues, shared her personal experiences and highlighted pressing issues related to information accessibility. The participants exchanged views and discussed future collaboration opportunities.
The seminar became an important step in improving information accessibility for people with disabilities. The participants explored the experiences from different countries in building an inclusive society and laid the foundation for joint initiatives.
