KazNU is exploring the space world

4 april, 2025

The participants of the forum "Integration of Science, Business and Production" were provided with information about the planned launch into space of a microsatellite developed by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in cooperation with Northwestern Polytechnic University of China. A mock-up of nanosatellites manufactured on the basis of KazNU was also demonstrated.

Currently, university researchers, together with scientists from Northwestern Polytechnic University, are working on the development of the NKSAT microsatellite.  It will be the first university microsatellite in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Collaboration, in turn, paves the way for space exploration, the training of qualified specialists and the development of common satellites. It also makes it possible to conduct remote studies of the Earth using a microsatellite. The microsatellite launched into space performs three main tasks of measuring the Earth's gravitational field and radiation radiation, and conducting geological exploration.

As part of the implementation of this project, it is planned to install a ground station on the territory of KazNU jointly with the Hainan Center for Research and Use of Satellite Data and the NWPU.

Northwestern Polytechnic University of China is a leader in launching nanosatellites into space.

KazNU is the only university in the country with experience in launching nanosatellites into space. The "Al-Farabi-1" and "Al-Farabi-2" nanosatellites, developed by university scientists for the cosmodrome, were successfully launched and completed their mission in 2017 and 2018.
