ORGANIZING CAREER GUIDANCE MEETINGS WITH SCHOOLCHILDREN WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF SDGs

Within the framework of the SDG program (Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4. "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"), a career guidance meeting was organized with high school students of comprehensive schools in Almaty and the Flagman Physics and Technology Lyceum in Astana. (https://flagmanschool.edu.kz) School students received comprehensive information about the educational programs implemented at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Professors of the Department of Biotechnology Eranazarova G.I., Turasheva S.K., Deputy Head of the Department of Biotechnology Associate Professors Sarsekeyeva F.K. and Omirbekova A.A. told in detail about the programs in biotechnology, bioengineering, microbiology. The high school students were shown and told about the advanced scientific research conducted in the Kazakh-German-Chinese laboratory of applied microbiology and the Kazakh-Japanese scientific laboratory of phototrophic biotechnology, the laboratory of cell biotechnology, where employees, young scientists, PhD-students and master's students carry out joint projects in collaboration with German, Chinese and Japanese scientists. The students received new knowledge about green technologies, alternative energy sources produced by microorganisms, microalgae, about new applied research in the field of biogeotechnology, mining and oil industries. The professor staff and teachers of the Department of Biotechnology told the school students about what biotechnologists and bioengineers do, what professional skills students receive as a result of studying in these educational programs, where and who they can work in the future. The students were shown laboratories where employees conduct microbiological research, were shown how microorganisms and plant cells are cultivated, and what biotechnological products are obtained based on microorganism and plant cultures.
