SDG 4: A Demonstration Lecture and Seminar on the topic: "Abai’s Poetry and Poetics"

24 february, 2025

On February 24, 2025, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 4  "Quality Education", a demonstration  lecture on the topic:  "Abai’s Poetry and Poetics. Studies by K. Zhumaliev and A. Nurkatov" and a seminar titled "Thematic and Ideological Analysis of the Studies by K. Zhumaliev and A. Nurkatov" were held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University as part of "Abai and His Literary School" course. Both events were conducted at a high level.

The event  was organized by first-year master's degree  student Alua Askar  of  the "7M02313 – Kazakh Philology"  major  under the supervision of Professor of the Department of Kazakh Literature and Literary Theory, Doctor of Philology Zinol-Gabden Kabievich, Senior Lecturer, Doctor of Philology G.Zh. Bolatova, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences B.I. Imanbekova, and Acting Professor of the Department of General and Applied Psychology, Candidate of Psychological Sciences N.S. Zhubanazarova.

During the  lecture, the master's degree  student introduced the artistic structure and philosophical depth of Abai's poetry and thoroughly analyzed the literary and theoretical approaches in the studies of K. Zhumaliev and A. Nurkatov. The national identity, humanistic ideas, and artistic features found in Abai’s poems were presented to the students on a scholarly basis.

At the seminar,  the students conducted thematic and ideological analyses of selected texts based on the research of K. Zhumaliev and A. Nurkatov, attempting to justify their viewpoints through creative tasks. Tools such as presentations, platforms like Padlet.com, and group work methods were effectively utilized, giving the lesson a discussion-based format.

Interaction between the instructor and students was built upon academic dialogue. At the end of the seminar, students examined current theoretical approaches in literary studies and Abai studies, and shared new ideas related to Abai’s works.

The open lecture and seminar significantly contributed to the development of students’ research skills and supported the meaningful and effective implementation of quality education in alignment with SDG-4.
