
On May 16, 2025, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Dzhakupov Readings – 2025” was held under the title “Psychology in Kazakhstan and the World: Experience, Trends, and Prospects.”
The conference was dedicated to the memory of Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Satybaldy Mukatayevich Dzhakupov and his 75th anniversary.
The goal of the conference was to discuss current issues in psychological science aimed at improving people's quality of life, advancing and enhancing the quality of education amid global changes, summarizing the experience of experimental research, identifying trends and prospects for the development of psychological science in Kazakhstan and worldwide, as well as promoting the legacy and contributions of Professor S. M. Dzhakupov (1950–2014), a founding figure of psychological science in Kazakhstan.
The conference brought together scholars from Kazakhstan, Germany, the Netherlands, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and other countries.
A significant contribution to the organization of the event was made by the scientific school of Satybaldy Mukatayevich Dzhakupov.
The conference implements the Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 “Health and Well-being”, SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 10 “Reduced Inequalities”, SDG 17 “Partnerships for Sustainable Development”, etc.
S.M. Dzhakupov (April 29, 1950 – January 3, 2014) was an outstanding psychologist, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Honorary Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician of the National Academy of Natural Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and an Honored Educator of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He trained an entire generation of Kazakhstani scholars in the field of psychological sciences, having supervised 58 Candidates of Sciences, 9 Doctors of Sciences, and 5 PhD dissertations.
S.M. Dzhakupov was well known in academic circles both in Kazakhstan and abroad as an experimental psychologist and the author of an original psychological concept of joint-dialogical cognitive activity. He was the author of more than 500 scientific works, including 3 monographs, over 40 educational and methodological manuals and textbooks (one of which was published by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan), and around 30 scientific articles in journals with impact factors and indexed in Scopus.
The conference was opened by Erkin Ermanovich Duisenov, Doctor of Law, Professor, and Deputy Chairman of the Board – First Vice-Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
In his speech, he emphasized the significant contribution of Professor S.M. Dzhakupov to psychological science, the training of scientific personnel, as well as his scientific, organizational, and public activities.
In the field of educational psychology, Professor Dzhakupov developed a conceptual model – a psychological structure of the learning process as a multi-level system, in which the effectiveness depends on the development of joint-dialogical cognitive activity between teachers and students, and between lecturers and university students.
In addition to educational and general psychology, the scholar also made a notable contribution to the development of ethnopsychology and the establishment of social psychology in Kazakhstan.
The First Vice-Rector also emphasized S.M. Dzhakupov’s contribution to the development of the Department of General and Ethnic Psychology and the establishment of a national psychological scientific school: he supervised 9 Doctors of Sciences, 58 Candidates of Sciences, and 5 PhD dissertations. He was also instrumental in the creation of the first Dissertation Council in psychological sciences in Kazakhstan during the 1990s and early 2000s.
The moderator of the plenary session, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Bekzhan Berikbaevich Meirbayev, PhD in Philosophy and Associate Professor, highlighted the significance of the conference and the contribution of S.M. Dzhakupov to the development of the faculty and the department. He then gave the floor to Zholmukhan Turkmenovich Turkmenov, veteran of KazNU, PhD in Pedagogy, and Professor.
In his speech, Professor Turkmenov emphasized the importance of scientific and experimental psychology in Kazakhstan, particularly its relevance in preventing extremist religious ideologies and non-traditional religious movements.
Continuing the discussion, the moderator drew attention to the importance of advancing the field of the psychology of religion, referring to a recent conference on Islamic psychology organized by two departments of the faculty – the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies, represented at the conference by acting head Samal Mukhametaliyevna Kaupenbayeva, and the Department of General and Applied Psychology, headed by A.K. Mynbayeva.
A welcome address was delivered by Batyr Rakhmankulovich Kadyrov, Doctor of Psychological Sciences and Professor of the Department of Psychology at the Tashkent Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).
On behalf of the scholar's family, Maksat Satybaldievich Dzhakupov, Senior Lecturer of the Department, shared memories of the professor's dynamic life and career, his exceptional dedication to work, and his relentless academic activity. He recalled how Satybaldy Mukatayevich Dzhakupov was frequently traveling—across regions of Kazakhstan, to Russia, Central Asian countries, and beyond—for lectures, joint research projects, and participation in dissertation councils across the post-Soviet space.
To honor the memory of the scholar, the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science and the Department of General and Applied Psychology presented flowers and a symbolic gift to his wife, Nadezhda Vladimirovna Dzhakupova, Candidate of Historical Sciences.
During the plenary session, a series of reports were presented on the scholar’s contribution to the development of psychology in Kazakhstan: "Innovative Initiatives of Academician S.M. Dzhakupov (‘Kazakh Association of Psychologists’)" – by Dr. of Psychological Sciences, Full Member of the International Association of Psychological Sciences (Russia), Professor of the A.K. Kusainov Eurasian Humanitarian Institute, Tatyana Anatolyevna Abdrashitova (Astana); "The Importance of the Theory of Joint Dialogical Cognitive Activity in the Formation and Development of S.M. Dzhakupov’s School" – by Dr. of Psychological Sciences, Professor of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Alma Taurbekovna Akazhanova; "Psychological Mechanisms of Cognitive Activity Development in the Learning Process Based on the Research of S.M. Dzhakupov" – by Dr. of Psychological Sciences, Professor of Turan University, Ospan Seydullayevich Sangilbayev.
The scientific school of S.M. Dzhakupov held a Republican Student Contest on the works of Satybaldy Mukatayevich on the eve of the conference. Six students from various regions and universities of Kazakhstan were declared winners.
Professor N.K. Toksanbayeva awarded diplomas and prizes to the students and university representatives, while M.A. Perlenbetov presented membership certificates to the winners, confirming their admission into the Kazakh Psychological Society.
From Europe, remote keynote presentations were given by: Prof. em. Dr. Konrad Reschke (Leipzig, Germany) – Honorary Professor of Leipzig University (the founding institution of psychological science), founder of the IPT Institute for Psychotherapy in Leipzig, behavioral psychotherapist, clinical psychologist, lecturer and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Institute for Advanced Professional Development (MIFW GmbH).
His presentation was titled: “The Significance of Wilhelm Wundt in Modern Psychology”; PhD, Dr. Hon-Prof. Alena Garber (Bad Wildungen, Germany / Amsterdam, Netherlands) – Honorary Professor of the Dutch University of Modern Sciences, Honorary Professor of the Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts (Almaty), Co-director of the International Center for Professional Development and Scientific Information IWG e.V. in Mönchengladbach, and psychotherapist at the medical concern Dr. Ebel Kliniken, Reinhardshöhe Clinic. Her presentation was titled: “The Path from Pathogenesis to Salutogenesis in Psychology, Sociology, and Medicine according to Aaron Antonovsky.”

Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Almagul Mandykayeva (Astana).
At the conclusion of the plenary session, warm memories and reflections on S.M. Dzhakupov’s contribution to the development of psychology in Central Asia were shared in the report “The Formation of Ethnic Identity Structure Using the Example of Contemporary Kyrgyzstan” by Dr. of Psychological Sciences, Corresponding Member of the APSN of the Russian Federation, Vice-Rector for Research of the Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University, Kamshybek uulu Myrzabek (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), and Dr. of Philosophical Sciences, Professor of Psychology, Head of the Department of Social Work and Practical Psychology at Karasaev Bishkek State University, Erik Sadykovich Orozaliev (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan).
In the afternoon, the following thematic section sessions took place:
