Open curatorial hour dedicated to the celebration of the National Currency Day — Tenge
On November 13, 2025, at 16:00, at the Higher School of Economics and Business of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, an open advisory session was held as part of SDG 4 “Quality Education”, SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, and SDG 17 “Partnership for Sustainable Development”, and dedicated to the “National Currency – Tenge Day” holiday. The event was organized under the guidance of curator-advisers, PhD in Economics A.S. Assilova and PhD in Economics Zh.K. Zhorabayeva, with the participation of 2nd-year students majoring in Finance.
Many honorable guests, faculty members of the department, as well as international students attended the event. The main purpose of the advisory session was to promote the significance of the national currency, the tenge, in strengthening the country’s independence, economic stability, and development; to foster a sense of national pride; to enhance respect for the state financial system; and to deepen students’ understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event began with an impressive orchestral performance and continued with spirited traditional music and patriotic songs. Students showcased their talents, expressing national spirit, love for the country, and their knowledge of economics. In addition, participants enjoyed performances of nationally inspiring songs such as “Qazaq eli osyndai”, “Bir uýdіń balasyndaý”, and traditional kuy melodies including “Alqysa”, “Balbyrauyn”, and “Erkesylqym”.
During the session, particular emphasis was placed on the introduction of the tenge into circulation in 1993 — one of the most important economic milestones in the history of independent Kazakhstan. Students were thoroughly informed that the national currency is a symbol of the country’s economic sovereignty and state integrity.
As part of the event, participants took part in a Kahoot quiz, answering interesting questions about the history of the tenge, the financial system of Kazakhstan, the importance of a national currency for economic security, the potential impact of the digital tenge in the future, and the role of financial literacy among youth.
At the end of the event, the faculty of the Department of Finance and Accounting, as well as international students, shared their thoughts and expressed warm wishes.
Such meaningful events highlight the rich spiritual traditions of KazNU, promote patriotism and unity, and contribute to developing students’ national identity and economic thinking.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues to uphold its mission of nurturing educated, patriotic, and innovative youth — the strong foundation of the country’s future.
