Educational program
The educational program is focused on training highly qualified specialists with fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of meteorology.
ON1.to describe the basic laws of functioning and development of nature and society based on knowledge of basic laws and methods of natural sciences, physics and mathematics; to explain and interpret the nature of basic physical processes occurring in the atmosphere;
ON2.to organize, efficiently conduct and transmit all types of meteorological measurements and observations using digital technologies, professional terminology, codes and regulatory documents;
ON3. to create a rational meteorological observation network; to collect the necessary hydrometeorological information and make its analysis; to organize special meteorological observations; to use various ways of presenting meteorological information;
ON4.to explain and describe the physical processes of cloud formation and precipitation; to systematize them according to morphological and genetic features of education; to explain the nature of the occurrence of various optical and electrical phenomena in the atmosphere;
ON5.to use modern and promising methods of atmospheric sounding to obtain high-quality and representative aerological, radiometeorological and satellite information used in the preparation of weather forecasts;
ON6.to process and analyze weather maps, baric topography maps, upper-air charts; to identify features of the development of atmospheric ON3.processes and weather conditions for compilation of weather forecasts;
ON7.to work with models of general and mesoscale atmospheric circulation and interpret their results for weather forecasts;
ON8.to make weather forecasts of various lead times, specialized meteorological forecasts, warnings about the occurrence of hazardous and spontaneous hydrometeorological phenomena and deliver the information to the user;
ON9.to evaluate hydrometeorological phenomena that are dangerous for various branches of economic activity, to explain the reasons for their occurrence and make a forecast;
ON10.to calculate the main characteristics of climate; to diagnose and analyze climate change trends; to compile an annual review of climatic conditions; to offer a national climate monitoring product using WMO software;
ON11.to assess meteorological factors affecting the state of the environment and to apply in practice developed recommendations for their accounting in order to protect the air basin; to organize the air quality monitoring in real time, including using radar and satellite observations;
ON12.to write an analytical review of the current state and trends of meteorology development; to carry out activities in the legal, environmental and business spheres in compliance with the norms of republican and international legislation; present research results taking into account personal goals, motives and further professional growth; work in a team;
ON13.to carry out interpersonal communication, tolerantly perceiving social, ethnic, confessional and cultural differences.

Employment
The department forms the personnel potential of competitive meteorologists who meet modern intellectual requirements and development strategies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, meeting international standards. As a result, the percentage of employment of graduates of KazNU exceeds 64%.
For the future employment of graduates, the key employers are:
1) RSE "Kazhydromet",
2) RSE "Kazaeronavigatsia", at the airports of Kazakhstan
3) "Institute of Geography and Water Security";
4) Military forecaster at the military airports of the Armed Forces and the National Security Committee, with the title
5) Leading universities and scientific institutes of Kazakhstan,
Also, graduates can work in international organizations of the UN Development Program, the World Bank, the UN, UNESCO, the World Meteorological Organization, in organizations related to satellite monitoring of climate and weather, as well as on television.
Specialist meteorologists can work as meteorologists, weather forecasters, agrometeorologists, air pollution specialists, remote sensing specialists (satellite monitoring) and a wide range of weather and climate related specialties.
