SPORTS CLUB
By the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated January 01, 1934, the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov was opened on January 15. Since 1948, the Department of Physical Education and Sports has been operating independently at the University. At the same time, the beginning of the spartakiads between faculties among students, teachers and staff of the university was initiated.
In 1950, the KazSU sports club was opened and the first chairman of the KazSU sports club was elected Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Sokolov Vladimir Alekseevich, professor.
Students and graduates of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University have repeatedly represented our university and our country at national and international competitions – at World Championships, Asian Championships, World University Games and Olympic Games.

Student-athletes improve their sports skills at international and national competitions of various levels: Asian, World, European, Kazakh championships, Asian Games, World Student Games, World and Republican Universiades.
Student–athletes of the University are members of the national teams of the Republic of Kazakhstan and have high sporting achievements.
The university's national teams include Masters of Sports of international class, Masters of Sports and candidates for Masters of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The national team of al-Farabi Kazakh National University is a multiple winner of the Summer Universiade of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Healthy Lifestyle Center
The mission and purpose of the Center for Healthy Lifestyle are aimed at the implementation of Government Resolutions and Decrees on the improvement of the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the implementation of the Development Strategy "Kazakhstan - 2050"
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University actively pays great attention to the development of mass physical culture and sports, as well as the improvement of student health.
The work of the Center for healthy Lifestyle of the sports club is carried out in the following areas:
1. Organization of classes in sports and mass sports and physical culture and recreation events.
2. Organization and holding of traditional student sports contests among faculties and dormitories by sports.
3. Organization of sports sections, formation of national teams by sports.
For the effectiveness of the educational process of physical education of university students, classes are organized in a club form, which takes into account the wishes of students as much as possible. Positive motivation to study is the most important factor in the formation of a person's physical culture.
Depending on their preferences, students can choose classes in groups in the following sports: basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, athletics, athletic gymnastics, aerobics, boxing, martial arts, chess. togyz kumalak.
Special medical groups and groups of therapeutic physical education are organized for students with various diseases.
Among the teachers of the Center for Healthy Lifestyle are honored coaches of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Masters of Sports of the International class of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Masters of Sports of the USSR and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Types of sports
During extracurricular time, the university has sports sections by sports: volleyball (men), volleyball (women), football (men), football (women), boxing, freestyle wrestling, sambo, judo, Kazakh kures, women's wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, basketball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, chess, togyz kumalak.
The university's national sports teams are formed from among the best student-athletes to participate in city and national competitions, University Games among university student teams.
