The Department of Foreign Languages is one of the oldest departments at our university and has been around for 55 years. It was established in 1968. The first head of the department was Schwartzman, E.M., associate professor and candidate of  philological sciences. From 1994 to 2020, the department was headed by Muldagaliyeva A.A., associate professor and candidate  of  philological sciences. At the moment, Dosmagambetova, D.D., a candidate of philosophical sciences and acting associate professor, is the head of the department.

     The teachers of Department of Foreign Languages put a great deal of effort into integrating new IT technologies into the teaching process when the educational process was switched to a distant learning regime. Currently, the openkaznu.kz platform hosts the SPOCs and MOOCs in professional foreign language  created  by the department teachers for master's degree students .

In 2019 the KazNU TOEFL Center was  established   to   prepare for   and  administer  TOEFL iTP  and TOEFL iBT exams in English.

     Today, the Department of Foreign Languages  works closely  with Canakkale Onseksiz Mart University (Turkey) and Adam Mickiewicz University. The scientific project “Methodology of integrating language and media education”, proposed by the teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages, has received grant financing by the Ministry of Education and Science  for 2023-2024.

In 2023-2024 academic year Aliyarova L.M., the teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages, won “Bolashak” international scholarship to study at the University of California, San Diego, the USA.
