Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology

Chair of analytical, colloid chemistry and technology of rare elements

The Department of Analytical, Colloidal Chemistry and Technology of Rare Elements was formed by the gradual merger of 3 departments: Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry of Rare Elements, Colloidal Chemistry. At the moment it is one of the largest at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Teachers of the department train students of all specialties of the faculty in basic areas of chemistry, as well as in analytical chemistry - for geographical, medical, physical and biological faculties. The scientific activity of the department is closely connected with the Center for Physico-Chemical Methods of Research and Analysis (CFCMA). Almost all teachers of the department are scientists of the Central Agricultural Academy. The department conducts scientific research in the field of analytical, colloidal chemistry, ecology, electrochemical synthesis, current sources, technology of composite materials, rare elements. The department is the leader in the number of publications in Q1 and Q2 journals.

From 1939 to 1971, department had been headed by Mikhail Kozlovskiy. He was a well-known scientist, who built a Kazakh school of electrochemists and analysts, and entered the world scientific elite as a leader of the school of amalgam chemistry and metallurgy.
M.T. Kozlovskiy read one of the best, in Kazakhstan of that time, lecture courses in analytical chemistry. He laid the foundations of teaching methods and research work taking into account training specifics of future specialists.
With direct participation of M.T. Kozlovskiya whole generation of teachers of the department wasbrought up (O.A. Songina, A.I. Zebreva, E.F. Speranskaya, R.Z. Vagapova, Z.B.Rozhdestvenskaya,K.Z. Sagadiev, A.M. Kucherbaeva, V.P. Gladyshev, V.A. Zakharov, V.Y. Mertsalova, R.N. Matakova, B.K. Toybaev, L.M. Filippova, S.A. Levitskaya et al.). Until the end of his life, M.T. Kozlovskiy remained a scientific consultant of the department.

From 1971 to 1993, department was headed by a student of M.T. Kozlovskiy, talented scientist and a wise supervisor, prof. Alexandra Zebreva. As an excellent methodist, A.I. Zebreva gave a lot of effort and attention to improving the teaching methods of analytical chemistry, improve pedagogical skills of teachers. Particular attention was paid to the development of teaching aids.
For success in work A.I. Zebreva repeatedly awarded with diplomas of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the KazSSR, the badge "For excellent successes in work and achievements in the field of higher education of the USSR", Jubilee Medal for Valiant Labor in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin. In 1989 she was awarded the title of Honoured Scientist of Kazakhstan.
