Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology

Chair of Chemical Physics and Material Science

Department of Chemical Physics and Materials Science was formed on the basis of Department of Chemical Kinetics and Combustion, department has a long history and is one of the youngest departments at the faculty. Scientific and educational activities of the department are related to such promising areas as research in the field of chemical physics and combustion processes, obtaining new materials, obtaining graphenes and graphene-like structures, 3D printing, electrospinning, research in the field of petrochemistry, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis, plasma chemistry, high-energy materials. Department trains specialists in all 3 levels of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in the following areas: 6B05302 - Nanomaterials and nanochemistry; 7M07122 - Nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in chemistry; 8D07113 - Nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in chemistry; 7M05320 - Chemical physics; 7M07104 - Chemical technology of explosives and pyrotechnics; 8D07103 - Chemical technology of explosives and pyrotechnics. Department has double-degree educational programs with leading universities of Russia, such as the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI”.

History of the department

In Kazakhstan the beginning of development of chemical physics is connected with a name of academician RАТS, Doctors of Chemistry, professor Ksandopulo George Ivanovich. Studying bases of combustion processes is the basic maintenance of G.I. Ksandopulo and his colleague’s work. Thus in researches take part not only chemists, but also physicists and mathematicians. Initially, their research activity was carried out within the chair of physical chemistry.

However achievements of group of employees of G.I. Ksandopulo in the field of chemical physics have formed the basis for creation at chemical faculty KazGU in 1979 chair of chemical kinetics and combustion which has been renamed since 1997 into chair of chemical physics.

Has essentially expanded a circle of solved problems of chemical physics under direction of professor Z.A. Mansurov whom in 1997 becomes managing chair of chemical physics.

At present, Head of the Chair of chemical physics and materials science candidate of chemical science, associate professor Tulepov M.I.
