The history of the Department of Linguistic and General Educational Training of Foreigners of the Faculty of Pre-University Education began in 1985. The department was established on the basis of the preparatory faculty for foreigners. During this time, about 7,000 students from 100 countries of the world who can speak the Kazakh and Russian languages, who live all over the world, have received education from the walls of the faculty. 5 doctors of science, 10 candidates of science, as well as experts in teaching Kazakh and Russian languages as a foreign language are involved in the teaching and research work of the department. The teachers of the department regularly improve their knowledge and exchange experience in higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan and Russia. He also goes to foreign countries to participate in international conferences. Members of the department worked in the universities of the People's Republic of China, South Korea, India, Laos, and Afghanistan.
     In 2007, the department updated the curricula related to the teaching of Kazakh as a foreign language and Russian as a foreign language, and issued a set of curricula for this and other aspects of subjects taught at the preparatory faculty. The educational programs of Kazakh and Russian languages are made in accordance with the educational standard, approximated to the European language portfolio. Teaching Kazakh as a foreign language and teaching Russian as a foreign language by algorithmic organization of teaching material can have a lot of opportunities in student classrooms. These programs can be described as types of applied linguistics and language didactics that meet modern requirements. During one year, the trainees receive basic knowledge of the grammar of the Kazakh and Russian languages and study the following courses: practical Kazakh and Russian languages, language adaptation, audiovisual course, country studies, history and culture of Kazakhstan. In the second year of education, in addition to the practical course of high-level Kazakh or Russian languages, such subjects as "Media language", "Intercultural communication" and "Scientific speech style" are taught. Students take exams twice a year, and according to the results of the exams, they receive state-type A1-A2, B1-B2 level certificates that allow admission to higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.
