"Law and Order": On November 14, 2025, the Faculty of International Relations hosted a substantive Olympiad in criminal law of Republic of Kazakhstan (General part) among representatives of students of the 2nd and 3rd courses of the Russian language in the specialty 6B04201 International Law. The event was aimed at developing professional competencies, increasing the level of legal training of students, as well as developing analytical thinking skills and a reasoned presentation of the legal position. The Olympiad was organized by Associate Professor of the Department of International Law Samaldykov Maksut Koshekovich, a retired police colonel who developed assignments (cases) and provided methodological support for the event.
The main goals and objectives of the subject Olympiad were:
1. Stimulating educational, cognitive and research activities of students (SDG 16 Peace, justice and effective UN institutions in the field of sustainable development until 2030);
2. Disclosure of students' professional and personal potential;
3. The manifestation of their abilities by talented students;
4. Consolidation of skills to analyze practical situations, to give them a legal assessment;
5. Instilling teamwork skills.
Two teams took part in the Olympiad — from among the students of the 2nd and 3rd courses. The Olympiad program included three rounds of solving practical problems based on the norms of the general part of criminal law of Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as a separate blitz tour between team captains. Each stage required participants to have a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of criminal law, the ability to apply legal norms in a specific practical situation, and to build a clear legal argument.
Before the start of the competition, a draw was held, according to the results of which the 2nd-year team performed first: Kalmurzayeva Ainura (captain of the 2nd-year team), Eibova Louise, Bakbergenova Dilnaz, Rysmgambet Diana, Valikhanova Anel. Despite this, the 2nd year students took up the challenge with enthusiasm and determined to show their maximum knowledge.
The interaction between the teams gave the event a special dynamic. After each presentation by the 2nd year team, the 3rd year team made their comments, suggested alternative solutions, and supplemented the analysis with interesting points of view. This created an atmosphere of lively scientific discussion, allowing all participants to deepen their understanding of the topic and look at the tasks from a new angle. According to the results of the competition, the 3rd year team won. At the same time, the jury noted the individual achievements of the students, awarding them awards in special nominations.
The 2nd year team consisted of the following students:
● Kalmurzayeva Ainur, the captain of the team, the winner in the "Best Blitz Response" nomination;
● Louise Eibova is the winner in the "Best Answer to a Problem" nomination;
● Diana Rysmagambet — showed high activity in solving the first task;
● Bakbergenova Dilnaz is the winner in the "Best Speaker" nomination;
● Valikhanova Anel — demonstrated a responsible attitude and activity when discussing tasks.
The 3rd year team consisted of the following students:
● Urazova Adelya — team captain, winner in the "Best Speaker" nomination;
● Amandyk Aisalkin is the winner in the "Best Speaker" nomination;
● Bayanbai Sarra distinguished herself by her informative and reasoned speeches, which made it possible to quickly detect and eliminate shortcomings, errors from opponents;
● Kambarova Tomiris — showed high involvement and analytical approach in solving problems (cases).
The jury noted the high-quality training of both teams, the students' ability to work in a competitive environment, comply with the requirements of legal logic and demonstrate a high level of legal culture.
The jury consisted of: Deputy head of the Department for Scientific and Innovative Work and International Relations, PhD Baymagambetova Zulfiya Mazhitovna; lecturer's assistant Toktarbekova Madina Erlanovna. Awarding of the winners and participants took place with the participation of the head of the Department of International Law, PhD, Associate Professor Altayeva Kamilya Zhakipbekovna, who noted the importance of holding subject Olympiads for the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of law.
The students positively assessed the format and content of the Olympiad, noting its practical orientation, high level of organization and the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in an intellectual competition.
