Al-Farabi KazNU Discusses New Scientific and Educational Projects with Ghent University
A delegation from Ghent University (Belgium), led by Rector Prof. Petra De Sutter, paid a working visit to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU).
During the working meeting, Erkin Duysenov, Vice-Chairman of the Board and First Vice-Rector of KazNU, presented the honorary guests with the university’s latest scientific and academic achievements, noting that cooperation between KazNU and higher education institutions in Belgium is developing in new directions.
Rector Petra De Sutter expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted her special interest in deepening cooperation with KazNU. She emphasized the need to strengthen scientific links between researchers, develop joint research projects, and expand double-degree programs for young scholars.
The meeting also included Prof. Mikhail Ruzhansky from Ghent University, who shared his views on the potential for bilateral cooperation in education and science. Additionally, the session was attended by Zholaman Maktagaliuly Bektemesov, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Rosa Farkhatovna Sabirova, Deputy Dean for Scientific and Innovative Work and International Cooperation, Syrim Erkinovich Kasenov, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Saule Dzhumakanovna Mausumbekova, Head of the Department of Mathematical and Computer Modeling.
During the meeting, representatives of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics received detailed information on the opportunities offered by the double-degree program in “Mathematics,” support measures for students studying abroad, and upcoming joint projects.
The parties discussed in detail the prospects for deepening scientific and educational ties between the two universities, implementing joint research projects, expanding academic mobility programs, and systematically developing exchanges of faculty and students. At the end of the negotiations, both sides expressed readiness to develop a concrete plan of joint activities and elevate the strategic partnership to a new level.
After the meeting, a special tour of the university campus was organized for the delegation. The guests became acquainted with KazNU’s scientific infrastructure, newly opened laboratories and research centers, and the results of innovative projects by Kazakh scientists.
