November 25, the Faculty of International Relations hosted an academic seminar titled “Global Governance Tools as Instruments of Cultural Diplomacy”.

The event brought together students, young researchers, and faculty members interested in the intersection of global climate policy, international cooperation, and cultural diplomacy.

The main presentation on “Global Governance Tools as Instruments of Cultural Diplomacy” was delivered by Dayana Turarbekova and Akmаral Yerlan, second-year master’s students. Their research was carried out under the scientific supervision of Dr. Leila Delovarova.

The presentation highlighted the relevance of SDG 13, 16, and 17 by demonstrating their connection to climate action, strong institutions, and international partnerships. The speakers illustrated how these goals are embedded within global governance tools and cultural diplomacy.

In their presentation, the young scholars also highlighted several key areas:

-climate change as a cultural and diplomatic challenge for the international community;

-the role of major global mechanisms — UNFCCC, COP, IPCC — in shaping international environmental governance;

-cultural diplomacy and soft power tools in promoting climate initiatives;

-comparative case studies of the European Union, China, and Indigenous diplomacy, demonstrating the diversity of diplomatic approaches.

A rich discussion followed the presentation. Participants explored how cultural differences influence the perception of global environmental policies, discussed the evolving diplomatic language surrounding climate issues, and examined the potential of cultural diplomacy to strengthen international cooperation.

It was emphasized that integrating cultural diplomacy into global governance mechanisms contributes to more inclusive, adaptive, and effective international solutions.

The seminar was organized with the support of Dr. Leila Delovarova and the activists of the UN Academic Regional Resource Center at KazNU, who continue to foster academic dialogue and promote research initiatives within the faculty.
