Archaeology as a Field of Interdisciplinary Interaction
Within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 17 — “Partnerships for the Goals” As part of the international project “Scientists of the Future”, the Faculty of History hosted a lecture by Irina Konstantinovna Reshetova, Candidate of Historical Sciences and researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Her lecture was titled “Archaeology as a Field of Interdisciplinary Interaction.”
During the presentation, the lecturer demonstrated how modern archaeology has moved beyond traditional methods and actively integrates advances from other scientific fields — from geology, paleogenetics, and anthropology to digital technologies such as GIS analysis, 3D modeling, and remote sensing. Special attention was given to how interdisciplinary collaboration helps reconstruct ancient ecological systems, trace population migrations, analyze material culture, and refine the chronology of archaeological sites.
Irina Reshetova emphasized that a modern archaeologist must possess a wide range of competencies and remain open to cooperation with specialists from various disciplines. The lecture sparked significant interest among students and encouraged further discussion on the prospects of interdisciplinary research in the humanities.
