SDG 14 – Marine Ecosystem Conservation. Pollution of Seas and Oceans: Causes, Consequences, and Prevention Measures.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Faculty of Physics and Technology. On December 9, 2025, at 12:00, in room 531, an open educational session titled “Preserving Marine Ecosystems. Pollution of Seas and Oceans: Causes, Consequences, and Prevention Measures” was held by students of the 3rd year, group 344, majoring in “Physics and Astronomy.”
Responsible curator: Nodyarov A.S., Department of Electronics and Astrophysics. The session discussed the main sources of marine and ocean pollution (plastic waste, industrial discharges, oil spills, household waste) and their impact on ecosystems. Special attention was given to Kazakhstan’s environmental issues — the shrinking of the Aral Sea and the declining water level of the Caspian Sea, as well as their effects on climate, biodiversity, and the regional economy.
Students explored the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, developing environmental awareness, responsible consumption, and the role of international cooperation. The session employed explanation, video materials, Q&A, discussion, and poster presentations. SDGs: Goal 13 “Climate Action,” Goal 14 “Life Below Water,” Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production.”
