Meeting of the “Talleyrand” Diplomatic Club: Student Contribution to Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals
A regular meeting of the “Talleyrand” Diplomatic Club was held in Room 226 of the Faculty of International Relations with the support of the Council of Young Scientists. The event focused on summarizing interim results, discussing plans for the upcoming period, conducting thematic debates, and admitting new members to the Club.
The meeting was of particular importance in the context of promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially:
– SDG 4 – Quality Education: development of analytical thinking, critical reasoning, and public speaking skills among students;
– SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: discussion of international political processes, simulation of international organizations, and fostering a culture of dialogue and evidence-based argumentation;
– SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: expansion of the student community, strengthening cooperation among young researchers, and engagement in international academic platforms.
The working and discussion-based format of the meeting contributed to the development of key competencies aligned with the educational and practical objectives of the SDGs. Participants reviewed the Club’s current areas of activity, including participation in scientific and practical events, preparation for Model United Nations simulations, and the development of student initiatives in diplomacy and international communication.
In his address, Arsen A. Maltabarov, Project Manager of the “Talleyrand” Diplomatic Club, emphasized the importance of systematic training in analytical skills. He noted that the Club should serve as a platform for preparing students capable of contributing to international organizations and institutions involved in SDG implementation.
The central element of the meeting was the thematic debates, during which students discussed pressing issues on the international agenda. This format enabled participants to demonstrate skills in argumentation, evidence-based analysis, and engagement with counterarguments—competencies directly linked to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peaceful and Inclusive Societies).
The meeting also included an official induction ceremony for new members. Candidates presented their motivations and expectations, reinforcing the Club’s commitment to active participation and responsibility. The expansion of membership strengthened internal partnerships within the Faculty and enhanced the potential of student initiatives, fully reflecting the principles of SDG 17.
In conclusion, A.K. Zholdasbayev, Student President of the Club, highlighted the importance of teamwork and emphasized that the future development of the “Talleyrand” Diplomatic Club depends on the initiative and engagement of its members. The Club continues to serve as an important platform for the professional and personal development of future specialists in international relations and diplomacy.
Organized by the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of International Relations.
