15 january, 2026

On January 15, 2026, the Winter School for Academic Advisors titled “Prevention of Suicidal Behavior and Development of Student Resilience” was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The Winter School brought together Vice Deans for Student Affairs, academic group advisors, teaching staff, and in-house psychologists of the University. The total number of participants exceeded 50.

As part of the Winter School, two practice-oriented workshops were conducted, focusing on the prevention of suicidal behavior in the student population, as well as on the development of personal resilience, coping strategies, and stress management mechanisms. The program was aimed at equipping academic advisors with skills to recognize stress-related and crisis states in students, including early signs of suicidal risk, and to master appropriate response algorithms and methods of providing initial psychological support.

The workshop program was developed on the basis of findings from research and grant-funded projects implemented in the fields of suicide prevention and the study of negative emotional states.

The event was held with the support of Partners for Health.

Organizers: the Social and Educational Department and the Department of General and Applied Psychology.
