SEMINAR ON INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN SOUTH ASIA HELD WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

As part of the Sustainable Development Goals initiative, the Faculty of Oriental Studies held a seminar titled “Intercultural Communication in South Asia: Experience of Oriental Studies Students,” bringing together the Department of Urdu Language and Literature and Pakistani students studying at universities in Almaty.
The main goal of the event was to develop intercultural communication among students, expand international academic and cultural exchange, and introduce the cultural characteristics of the South Asian region.
During the seminar, participants delivered presentations on the cultural traditions of South Asian countries, linguistic features, and the role of intercultural interaction in the modern education system. Students also shared their experiences of studying abroad and discussed issues related to understanding cultural differences and fostering mutual respect. As part of the event, second-year students of the Department of Urdu Language and Literature and Pakistani students discussed the importance of knowledge in cultural communication, followed by an interactive discussion and Q&A session.
Students of Oriental Studies, faculty members, and international students actively participated in the seminar. Participants emphasized that the development of cultural dialogue within the international educational environment contributes to strengthening academic cooperation.
The event was also covered by the reporting team of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The filming captured participants’ presentations, discussion sessions, and key stages of the seminar. The media team also conducted interviews with students and participants, highlighting the importance of intercultural education, international academic experience, and the development of cultural dialogue among young people. This event was implemented within the framework of SDG 4 – Quality Education. The seminar aimed to enhance students’ intercultural competence, expand international academic exchange, and improve the quality of education. Additionally, the event contributed to strengthening international educational cooperation within SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals and promoted equal educational opportunities for students from different countries in line with the principles of SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities.
