Master Class for Young Scientists and Doctoral Students on “Review Articles and Selected Research Tools in Scientific Publishing”
Within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Quality Education,” a master class for young scientists and doctoral students entitled “Review Articles and Selected Research Tools” was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences. The event aimed to enhance research skills and strengthen academic publishing culture. The speaker of the master class was climatologist Gulsara Monkaeva, a representative of the Institute of Geography and Water Security.

During the session, modern types of review studies were discussed, including narrative reviews as qualitative analytical formats with flexible structures and a focus on conceptual interpretation, systematic reviews based on rigorous protocols for literature search and selection, scoping reviews aimed at mapping research fields and identifying key thematic directions, as well as bibliometric reviews focused on analyzing publication activity, scientific networks, and research trends. Particular attention was given to the stages of preparing a review article – from formulating a clear research question and selecting the appropriate review type to developing literature search strategies in academic databases, filtering and systematizing sources, and conducting analytical interpretation to identify research gaps and future directions.
The master class made a significant contribution to strengthening doctoral students’ research competencies and developing academic skills essential for producing high-quality scientific publications in line with international standards.
