On February 23, 2026, Kazakh National University organized a curatorial session on the topic “Knowing the Law – A Requirement of the Time.” The main goal of this session was to enhance students’ legal literacy, explain their rights and responsibilities, and cultivate a culture of respect for the law. The lesson was conducted as part of the university’s ongoing educational initiatives and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), emphasizing inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Additionally, the session indirectly contributes to Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering cooperation between educational institutions and legal authorities.
During the session, students received a comprehensive overview of the fundamental laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan and discussed legal situations that they may encounter in everyday life. The session encouraged students to understand the importance of knowing the law both as individuals and as members of society. Through interactive discussions, students explored various scenarios, shared their thoughts on preventing legal violations, and analyzed how legal knowledge can protect citizens’ rights and promote social harmony.
The curatorial session also emphasized key values such as responsibility, honesty, and civic engagement. Students were guided to reflect on the consequences of their actions and the importance of ethical behavior in building a lawful and orderly society. By discussing real-life examples and practical situations, students developed critical thinking skills, learned to make informed decisions, and understood the role of law in shaping their personal and communal life.
This educational activity was organized as a formative measure to help young people become conscious, responsible citizens. By raising awareness of legal norms and promoting respect for laws, the university aims to equip students with the knowledge and attitudes necessary for active participation in public life. Moreover, linking the session to SDG 4 highlights the university’s commitment to providing quality education that empowers youth with the skills and understanding needed for personal development and civic responsibility. Collaboration with legal experts and local authorities also strengthened students’ practical understanding of legal principles and their application in real-world contexts.
In conclusion, the curatorial session “Knowing the Law – A Requirement of the Time” served as an important platform for promoting legal literacy, ethical values, and civic responsibility. It reinforced the significance of understanding laws, respecting rights and duties, and cultivating a culture of legality. Such educational initiatives contribute to sustainable development by preparing informed, active, and responsible citizens capable of contributing to a just and orderly society.
