SDG 5. Student forum “Girls in STEM”
All paths are open for women of Kazakhstan
Today, On February 13, 2026, at 13:00, in classroom 3-2 of the Faculty of Philology, a curatorial hour was held under the student forum “Girls in STEM”, entitled “All paths are open for women of Kazakhstan.” The main goal of the event is to show the achievements of Kazakhstani girls and women in the field of STEM. Students told what the abbreviation “STEM” means, which women in Kazakhstan are successful in various fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, etc. There are a lot of famous Kazakh names of women from past time that we are proud of. But today, the fastest growing industries are artificial intelligence, biotechnology, space technology, cybersecurity, and digital medicine. During the discussions, students identified a number of obstacles in Kazakh society that need to be overcome to achieve equality between women and men in new industries. These are: 1. stereotypes, 2. lack of role models, 3. accessibility. They gave examples of existing successful women, their areas of activity and their achievements. They are: Yana Ten - ZebraEye, an artificial intelligence-based platform that detects rare eye diseases. “Zebra” in medicine means a rare diagnosis; Assylzat Isataeva - AIDENTIS, an AI system for analyzing dental X-rays; Zhanat Makhataeva - researcher in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence; Nailya Bazanova is one of the leading women in Kazakhstani science and in the field of ecology. The event was held in the format of discussions, questions and answers, as well as group discussions. Students in the group presented their ideas creatively using slides and videos.

Such events assist in increasing students’ motivation to set goals in life, career growth, and improving their hardworking skills. In general, the curator's hour was a meaningful and educational event for students.
