At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the official opening ceremony of the Kazakhstan–Singapore Center for Quantum Technologies took place, marking the launch of a new scientific and technological facility of strategic importance for the development of science, national security, and technological sovereignty of the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, emphasized that quantum technologies represent not merely another stage in the evolution of digital solutions, but a fundamentally new technological platform based on the laws of quantum physics. According to him, the development of quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing systems opens new horizons for data protection, advanced computing capabilities, and secure information infrastructure.

The establishment of the Center reflects the university’s strategic vision to integrate fundamental research with applied technological innovation. The facility will focus on advanced research in quantum information science, the development of experimental laboratories, and the training of highly qualified specialists capable of working at the forefront of modern physics and engineering. Particular attention will be paid to interdisciplinary collaboration, combining physics, information technologies, engineering sciences, and cybersecurity.

A key component of the project is the partnership with Singapore, one of the world’s leading hubs in quantum research and high technologies. International cooperation will enable the implementation of joint research programs, academic exchange of scientists and doctoral students, and the launch of applied projects oriented toward practical technological outcomes and compliance with international standards. Such collaboration strengthens scientific diplomacy and enhances the global integration of Kazakhstan’s research community.

For Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan–Singapore Center for Quantum Technologies represents a long-term investment in the future. It contributes to the preparation of highly skilled professionals, the creation of a foundation for national quantum infrastructure, and the development of domestic high-tech products. The Center is viewed as a growth point for science, higher education, national security, and the innovation-driven economy.

The initiative directly contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. By strengthening advanced scientific education and expanding international cooperation, the university reinforces its role as a driver of sustainable development and technological progress.
