26 february, 2026

On February 26, 2026, at the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a documentary film dedicated to the outstanding public figure, scholar, and mechanical engineer Ömirbek Arslanuly Zholdasbekov was screened for first-year students of the educational program 6B02213 – “Museology and Historical and Cultural Tourism.” The purpose of the event was to familiarize students with the history of the university and the life path of a personality who made a significant contribution to the development of national science and education, as well as to foster professional and civic values among future specialists.

The educational event was organized within the framework of the faculty’s academic and extracurricular work plan and aimed at understanding the role of historical figures in the development of science and society. The documentary highlighted Zholdasbekov’s scientific activities, his engineering achievements, and his leadership as Rector of the university. Students learned about his contribution to the development of mechanical engineering in Kazakhstan, the strengthening of international scientific cooperation, and the training of highly qualified specialists.

Following the screening, a discussion session was held during which students shared their impressions and analyzed the role of the individual in science and public life. Particular attention was paid to modern approaches to promoting historical figures, including the educational potential of documentary films. In addition, participants discussed the possibilities of using such materials in museum practice — in the creation of exhibitions, the preparation of guided tours, and the development of thematic exhibition projects.

All first-year students of the program took part in the event, with the support of faculty members and academic advisors. During the screening, participants received brief informational handouts prepared on the basis of the documentary, containing additional facts about the scholar’s life and professional achievements.

The event contributed to enhancing students’ professional interest and strengthening their respect for the national scientific heritage. For future specialists in museology and historical and cultural tourism, studying the lives of prominent figures is an essential component of preserving and promoting cultural heritage. Similar educational and academic events are planned to be organized on a regular basis in the future.
