Students from the Mangystau Region Met with a Representative of MAEK at the Faculty of Physics and Technology. SDG 9 and SDG 7
A meeting with a representative of the Mangystau Atomic Energy Combine was held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was attended by the dean of the faculty, faculty members from various departments, students, and the invited guest — E.Zh. Ibadullayev, Advisor to the General Director for General Affairs of MAEK LLP. Particular attention during the meeting was given to students from the Mangystau Region who are currently studying at the Faculty of Physics and Technology.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss prospects for cooperation between the university and one of the country’s major energy enterprises, as well as to inform students about opportunities for professional development and employment within the energy sector. During the meeting, the dean of the faculty emphasized the importance of interaction between universities and industrial enterprises in training highly qualified specialists who meet the demands of the modern labor market. According to the dean, such meetings strengthen the connection between the academic community and the real sector of the economy and enable students to better understand the needs and expectations of contemporary industry.
During the meeting, the representative of Mangystau Atomic Energy Combine presented detailed information about the enterprise, its role in the energy system of Kazakhstan, and the prospects for the development of the energy infrastructure in the Mangystau region. It was noted that MAEK is one of the key strategic facilities within the national energy complex. The enterprise produces electricity and thermal energy and also operates desalination facilities that supply fresh water to both the population and industrial enterprises of the region. Through this unique combination of energy production and seawater desalination technologies, the enterprise plays a crucial role in supporting the sustainable development of the Mangystau region.
The presentation also included information about the technological capabilities of the enterprise, its production structure, and its key operational areas. It was emphasized that MAEK actively implements modern engineering solutions, develops its technological infrastructure, and is highly interested in attracting young specialists with engineering and physical-technical education. In this regard, the enterprise places considerable emphasis on expanding cooperation with universities and supporting educational initiatives.
Students expressed particular interest in the information regarding social programs and opportunities provided to employees of the enterprise. The representative of MAEK spoke about social guarantees, working conditions, opportunities for professional growth, corporate training programs, and professional development initiatives for employees. Information was also provided about support programs for young specialists, including adaptation programs for university graduates, opportunities for career development, and participation in engineering and scientific-technical projects carried out by the enterprise.
During the meeting, students had the opportunity to ask questions related to the specifics of working in the energy sector, the expectations placed on young professionals, and employment prospects after graduating from the university. Particular interest was shown in issues related to industrial internships, participation in engineering projects, and opportunities for further professional development within the enterprise. The open dialogue format of the meeting allowed students to gain a clearer understanding of potential career pathways in the energy industry.
The event also aligns with the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, such meetings contribute to SDG 4 – Quality Education, as they enable students to better understand the practical application of their academic knowledge and familiarize themselves with the requirements of modern industry. Furthermore, interaction with energy enterprises and discussions on the development of energy infrastructure are closely related to SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, which focus on strengthening technological potential and fostering collaboration between science and industry.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of organizing such events, as they allow students to broaden their professional horizons, become familiar with the real sector of the economy, and form a clearer understanding of their future professional activities. Such meetings contribute to strengthening partnerships between universities and industry and play a significant role in preparing highly qualified specialists for strategically important sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.
