A joint roadmap of the university branch will be developed
The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the international scientific and practical conference "Advanced Achievements of Science" with the participation of the delegation of the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China.
The event was attended by: Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty Jiang Wei, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of Northwestern Polytechnic University Fuli Zhang, Dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering Jinshan Li, Professors Wang Hongqiang, Zhe Liu, Haiyang Niu, Xiao Zhang and the leadership and teaching staff of KazNU.
Chairman of the Board of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University – Rector Zhanseyit Tuimebayev spoke about the bilateral negotiations held during the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the People's Republic of China. At the official meeting, documents were signed aimed at deepening cooperation between KazNU and Chinese universities, and a partnership agreement was signed to open a branch of Northwestern Polytechnic University.
A letter of intent on cooperation with Beijing Petroleum University was also presented, an agreement was signed on the joint establishment of a Chinese-Kazakh joint laboratory of Remote sensing Technologies and their applications with the Institute of Geography and Ecology of the XUAR, and a memorandum of understanding with Shenzhen University.
The head of the educational institution Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted: "Cooperation between states and the opening of a branch of the technical university will provide opportunities for the development of partnership, the exchange of experience and the establishment of long-term scientific ties between the participants. At today's meeting, the joint development of a roadmap for the opening of a branch of the SSPU on the basis of KazNU, the training of information technology specialists, the introduction of a double diploma program, and student exchange were discussed. The ways of implementing joint innovative projects, opening laboratories, developing materials science technologies and engineering sciences were also considered."
Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty Jiang Wei informed that KazNU maintains close ties with 50 higher educational institutions of the People's Republic of China and expressed gratitude for the reliable partnership.
"I would like to thank you for your continued support in strengthening cooperation in the field of higher education and science between the two countries. The establishment of the branch opens the way for the implementation of new projects between the two countries in the field of science and education and the training of qualified personnel in new formations.
Northwestern Polytechnic University is located in Xi'an. The university, where more than 36 thousand students study, has educational and research programs in technical areas: aeronautics, cosmonautics, marine engineering, etc. Northwestern Polytechnic University is in the Top 151-200 in the international ranking Academic Ranking of World Universities 2023, Top 501-600 – in the ranking THE 2023, on the 333rd place - in the international ranking U.S. NEWS 2023. Nobel Prize laureates in physics Li Zhengdao and chemistry Harold Kroto Walter came out of the famous educational institution," concluded Ms. Jiang Wei.
The work of the conference continued in the framework of the sessions: computer games, materials science, electronic and communication technologies.
Recall that there is an active academic mobility between KazNU and universities in China. During the 2019-2022 academic years, 79 students of KazNU under doctoral, master's, bachelor's degree programs studied on academic mobility, passed scientific internships. They took part in summer schools at Chinese universities, as well as 37 teaching staff visited China in order to improve their skills and participate in scientific conferences. To date, 401 Chinese students are studying at KazNU, among them 168 under the state educational grant, 233 students under the contract.
The university has a Department of Chinese Studies and the Confucius Institute.
