PRESENTATION OF THE TEXTBOOK

12 october, 2023

On October 9, a presentation of the textbook “Geographic information systems in Hydrology” was organized at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. The author of the textbook is Ainur K. Mussina, senior lecturer at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, author of more than 50 scientific articles, including 6 articles based on the SCOPUS peer-reviewed scientific literature database. Mussina A.K. is an active listener, participant in courses from the world's leading GIS manufacturing companies, dedicated to current and promising areas of application of geographic information systems in hydrology, as well as the developer of the training course “Possibilities of computer technologies in the study of hazardous hydrological phenomena” for specialists from departments of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For 20 years, she has been engaged in research work on assessing water resources, calculating river flow characteristics, assessing and managing mudflow risk, using GIS technologies in determining hydrological characteristics, and modeling hydrological processes.

Geographic information systems are widely used, in particular, in the field of hydrology, which studies the chemical and physical properties of natural waters, phenomena and processes observed in water bodies. This area of science studies the water cycle in nature, the influence of human economic activity on it, manages the regime of water bodies, analyzes hydrological elements for individual territories and the entire globe, evaluates and predicts the effective use of water resources and their condition. Therefore, we are firmly convinced that the textbook “Geoinformation Systems in Hydrology” will contribute to the further development of hydrology and the acquisition of skills in the using of GIS technologies in solving current problems in hydrology field.
