A BRANCH OF NORTHWESTERN POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF CHINA OPENED IN KAZNU

  During the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in May 2023 to China, an agreement was signed to open a branch of the Northwest Polytechnic University (NWPU) of the PRC in Al-Farabi KazNU.

At a meeting with the participation of the presidents of the two countries Chairman of the Board - Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC in the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhang Xiao signed an agreement on cooperation and the establishment of a branch. On the basis of the agreement in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on October 12 opened a branch of the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China. 

The solemn event was attended by: Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Otarbayev, Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Talgat Yeshenkulov, members of the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Council of Northwestern Polytechnic University Li Yanrong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kazakhstan Jiang Wei, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebaev, rectors of universities, scientists, faculty and students. 

First, Zhanseit Tuimebayev and Li Yanrong held talks in an extended format and signed an agreement defining bilateral relations in the establishment of a branch of Northwestern Polytechnic University on the basis of KazNU.

Greeting the guests and participants, Chairman of the Board-Rector Zhanseit Tuimebaev congratulated everyone on the opening of the branch of North-West Polytechnic University in Al-Farabi KazNU.

Rector noted that today's day will occupy a special place in the history of universities of the two countries. "This is an important event for Kazakhstan. For the first time in the country opened a branch of the Chinese university in KazNU. We are confident that the establishment of a branch of an advanced technical higher education institution of the PRC in the leading higher education institution of the country will strengthen the position of Kazakhstani higher education in the global space, provide quality international education for students of KazNU and give a great impetus to the development of scientific and technical direction. The aim is to conduct joint research work, training of technical students and exchange of teachers. This will increase mobility in education, eliminating geographical barriers. If our young people plan to study in higher educational institutions in China, they can enroll in the branch of the North-West Polytechnic University, which is opened on the basis of KazNU. Another strategically important direction is the expansion of the community of scientists of Kazakhstan, exchange of experience of teachers-professors", - said the rector of the university.

Northwestern Polytechnic University (Xi'an) has more than 36 thousand students. NWPU is one of the leading technical universities in China, ranked in the top 200 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2023, top 600 in THE 2023 and 333rd in the U.S.NEWS 2023 international ranking. Nobel Prize winners in physics Li Zhengdao and chemistry Harold Croteau Walter emerged from the renowned institution.

The ceremony was also addressed by Mr. Malik Otarbayev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who noted that the opening of the branch in KazNU is an important step in the training of technical specialists for our country. Also at the event spoke Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Talgat Yeshenkulov. He noted the increasing role of research universities in the development of science.

Li Yanrong, Chairman of the NWPU Council, emphasized the relevance of the event in his speech.

"Many students from Central Asia will have the opportunity to study on educational programs of bachelor's and master's degree in such specialties as: "engineer, "ІТ", "electronic science and technology", "aeronautics" and others. After graduation, the graduates will receive diplomas from the two universities," said Li Yanrong.

During the event, the issues of cooperation development and advanced achievements of science and higher education of the two countries were discussed.

The branch is located on the first floor of Technological Park of KazNU. All conditions have been created for young people. Special laboratory classes have been opened for the purpose of realization of research work. Students studying at the branch will visit the North-West Polytechnic University in China and undergo internship. At the end of their studies, the graduates will receive diplomas of the two universities.
