Social policy and social work in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

On November 16, 2023, a discussion «The role of social policy and social work in achieving sustainable development Goals» was held at the Department of Sociology and Social Work with the participation of undergraduates of the only educational program in Kazakhstan «Social Policy and Management». The discussion was held in a mixed format with the online participation of a specialist of the Department of Vocational training and support of entrepreneurial Initiatives of the Department of Social Welfare of the city of Almaty.

One of the key topics was the discussion of strategies to ensure employment, decent work for all and social protection in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Interesting introductory problematic theses were made about the effectiveness of targeted social assistance, the lack of research on motivational strategies that could significantly increase the economic activity of the unemployed, the need to study knowledge and attitudes to poverty among people working in the field of stimulating employment. Special attention was paid to the issues of social support for children and families in difficult life situations and how this can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
