"Oxford Qazaq Dictionary" was presented in KazNU

The presentation of the Kazakh-English and English-Kazakh dictionary "Oxford Qazaq Dictionary" was held for the first time at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

This project was initiated by the President of RK Kasym-Jomart Tokayev. Scientists of the International Society "Kazak tili", Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynov, "Freedom Holding" company and KazNU named after Al-Farabi took part in the publication of the book.

The event was attended by Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darhan Ahmed-Zaki, President of the International Public Association "Kazakh Language Society" Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, Member of the Board-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities of KazNU named after Al-Farabi Zhamila Aitzhanova, Chief Executive Director of JSC "Freedom Holding Corp" Timur Turlov, Director of the Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynuly Anar Fazylzhan, linguists and scientists of the university.

During the presentation of the dictionary, the Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darhan Ahmet-Zaki said.

"On behalf of the Ministry, I express my gratitude to all the specialists who participated in the publication of this dictionary. I believe that this book will be a great help for translators and scholars. Today there are many words that are translated from Kazakh to English, from English to Russian. I believe that this collection will be very useful for all specialists of the education system and will be a great assistant in their activities," - said Vice-Minister.

In turn, Member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Zhamila Aitzhanova noted: "This is a significant event for our country. The Oxford Dictionary as a symbol of the world standard of lexicography has become an integral part of education and science. Obviously, thanks to the efforts of linguists, philologists and researchers, the reference book will become invaluable for both Kazakh-speaking and English-speaking audiences. I am confident that this dictionary will make an important contribution to the preservation and development of the national language and culture," said Vice-Rector Zhamila Aitzhanova.

Speaking at the event, President of the International Public Association "Kazakh Language Society" Rauan Kenzhekhanuly emphasized the importance of the book for the two countries. Also in turn, Anar Fazylzhan noted that the work on compiling the dictionary "Oxford Qazaq Dictionary" lasted four years.

Oxford Qazaq Dictionary" contains more than 60 thousand words. The 1,300-page book consists of two sections.
