KazNU discussed trends in the development of a research university

In Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the framework of Professional Week-2024 started an expert strategic session "Modern trends in the development of research university", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of KazNU.

The event was attended by leading domestic and foreign experts in the field of education, faculty and students of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan.

Lazzat Erkinbaeva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

The Vice-Rector noted the relevance of the theme of the event, which aims to develop an educational strategy of the research university. "Today our task is to give an opportunity to discuss very serious issues: what should be the educational strategy of the university with a great emphasis on research universities; how we should realize digital transformation in higher education and science; what are the trends of inclusive education, and most importantly - how do we improve the quality of education. The 2023 National Report on Higher Education and Science has been widely discussed. And today we will discuss modern trends and challenges in higher education", - said L. Erkinbayeva.

The head of the project group "Mamandyғym - bolashagym" of the National Center for Development of Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Olzhas Sakenov made a speech at the plenary session. "Our organization implements various projects and tasks set before us by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek: opening of foreign branches, giving a new impetus to scientific developments, attracting young people to science, implementation of innovative methodologies that are now practiced in the world," - said the speaker.

The topic "Digital transformation of the education system in higher education" was devoted to the report of Dr. of Technical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabayev Kurmanbekuulu Talantbek. In his speech, the speaker highlighted the stages and prerequisites of digital transformation of science and higher education. Noting the need to develop a strategy, he emphasized: "The implementation of the "Digital University" system helps to form a full-fledged electronic information and educational environment based on a modern platform that allows for independent development, refinement and expansion of the system's functionality in any direction needed by the university."

At the plenary session with reports on topical issues were also made by: candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor, acting head of the Center for Academic Excellence of Toraigyrov University, expert of the National Center for Higher Education Development Marina Skiba, executive director of the company "Antiplagiat" Yuri Chekhovich and others.

The event continued with interactive expert panel sessions on "Designing Educational Programs: Problems and Prospects" and "Digital Transformation of Education", "Innovative Teaching and Learning Technologies", "Inclusive Education", "Quality of Learning and Teaching: Transforming the Role of the Teacher".

The experts also discussed such topical issues as: the needs of the labor market for the rapid integration of in-demand skills and competencies into educational programs based on professional standards, identification and implementation of innovative teaching and learning methods that promote active involvement of students in the educational process, and others.
