An expert strategic session “Modern trends in the development of a research university” was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

The Department of Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University presented to the expert community a revamped format of the annual international scientific and methodological conference in honor of the university's anniversary. This conference had been held at the university for 52 years, up until 2020.

The task of the conceptually new format of the revived conference - the expert strategic session - is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices regarding the integration of science and education to foster a sustainable and inspiring educational environment.

The goal of the 2024 expert session is to develop an educational strategy where science serves as the key driver of educational development in a research university.

During the plenary session marking the opening of the expert strategic session, the following speakers delivered speeches:

Rysgul Kudretullaeva, Head of the department for higher and postgraduate education content management of committee of higher and postgraduate education Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstanof the Republic of Kazakhstan;

Erkinbayeva Lazzat Kalymbekovna, Member of the Board Member – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

FAN Xiaoli, Professor, Dean of the Queen Marry University of London Engineering School at NPU (Joint Education School), Computational Materials Scientist (United Kingdom);

Olzhas Sakenov, Head of the Project Group " Мамандығым – болашағым " at the National Centre for the Development of Higher Education of Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

Marina Skiba, Acting Head of the Centre for Academic Excellence at Toraygyrov University, Ambassador of the European Training Foundation (ETF), and expert at the National Centre for the Development of Higher Education Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

Efimova Irina Yevgenyevna, Candidate of economic sciences, Associate Professor, representative of the German Accreditation Agency ASIIN in Central Asia, Member of Europe Education Policy Advisers Network of the Council of Europe (EPAN), expert of the EUA Institutional Assessment Program;

Kamila Rollan, PhD, a leading expert in inclusive education of Educational and Methodological Center at Suleyman Demirel University.

 

Within the framework of the scientific and methodological event, panel expert sessions were conducted:

1. Designing Educational Programs of a Research University: Issues and Perspectives.
2. Digital Transformation of Education.
3. Innovative Teaching and Learning Technologies.
4. Inclusive Education.
5. Quality of Teaching and Learning: Transforming the Role of the Instructor.

The participants of the panel sessions included representatives from IT laboratories of Nazarbayev University and SDU University, schools of the Northwestern Polytechnical University (Xi'an, China), EdTech companies such as Microsoft, Labster, 10Tech, and others, as well as faculty and students from higher educational institutions in Kazakhstan.

As a result of the expert strategic session, it is planned to publish articles in the collection "Modern Trends in the Development of a Research University," which will be published by the publishing house "Қазақ университеті" ("Kazakh University").

The scientifically significant forum of experts in the field of higher and postgraduate education in Kazakhstan, revived in honor of the anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, will become an annual event.
