SAMBO (MARTIAL ART)

The open championship in sports SAMBO among students (males and females), dedicated to the 90th anniversary of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, was held from February 16 to February 17, 2024, at the university’s sports complex. 38 student-athletes took part in the competition. According to the regulations of the competition, the weigh-in of participants was carried out on February 16 from 16.00 to 18.00, followed by the drawing of lots and the meeting of the panel of judges from 18.30 to 19.00. The competition began on February 17 at 10.00.
The competitions were organized and conducted by KazNU professors-coaches responsible for wrestling, the Almaty SAMBO Federation, and the University Sports Club.
The competitions were held on 2 mats in 16 weight classes (8 weight classes for males and 8 weight classes for females). 112 athletes in 14 teams from the districts of Almaty took part in the competition.
In a very entertaining competition, the strongest won. There were no injuries during the competition. The team prizes were distributed as follows:
1st place – Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism: Gold-5, Silver-3, Bronze-7;
2nd place – al-Farabi Kazakh National University: Gold-3, Silver-9, Bronze-18;
3rd place – Narxoz University: Gold-3, Silver-1.
All athlete-winners were awarded medals and diplomas, and the winning teams were awarded special cups and diplomas. Based on the results of the competition, athletes of al-Farabi Kazakh National University will subsequently participate in city, republican, and international competitions.
