World Water Day is celebrated annually on 22 March to raise awareness of the importance of freshwater resources and promote sustainable management. This Day provides an opportunity to take action to address the global water crisis in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The United Nations predicts a significant increase in droughts in some regions due to climate change, which could threaten access to fresh water for billions of people by 2050. Faced with this threat, sport can become a unifying force and a force for change thanks to XCSS Can't wait, which seeks to promote the sustainability of this vital resource through concrete initiatives. It is worth noting that Al-Farabi Kazakh National University works closely with the XCSS association - CROSS COUNTRY SKIING SAND, which heads the XCSS project “Climate Cannot Wait”.
Water is a central pillar of sustainable development and a fundamental element of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 6 is the basis for ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation for all and ensuring sustainable management of water resources. However, this mission faces various challenges such as environmental pollution, overexploitation of resources and the effects of climate change.
Faced with these challenges, XCSS Climate Can't Wait is committed to preserving water as a living heritage. In collaboration with local and international partners, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is working to raise awareness, educate and implement specific initiatives to protect this important resource.
