KazNU took part in the world action "Earth Hour"
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took an active part in the environmental action "Earth Hour". Within the framework of the global event, the campus street lights, outdoor lighting of educational buildings, lamps in front of the rectorate and in the alleys were completely switched off for 1 hour.
The global action under the slogan "Earth Hour-Big Hour, for the Future and Us" covers the Sustainable Development Goals' "Affordable and Clean Energy" pillar.
"The territory of KazNU is quite large. Therefore, there are a lot of street lights, outdoor lamps.
Today's international action contributes to significant energy saving in KazNU. I hope that after this event people will start saving energy in the future", - says the electrician of KazNU Galymzhan Aripkozhaev.
It should be noted that on March 23 from 20:30 to 21:30 in Kazakhstan held a global campaign "Earth Hour". This challenge was supported in almost 200 countries. Residents turned off lights and electrical appliances for an hour. Also were completely turned off the lights of monuments and architectural buildings. "Earth Hour" for Kazakhstan this year is held for the 15th time.
The purpose of this action is to show that we can jointly solve the environmental problem by drawing humanity's attention to climate change on the planet. In general, Earth Hour was first held in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. The following year, more than 100 million people from 35 countries took part in the action. Since then, the number of participants in the event has grown every year.
