"World Water Resources Day." Clean water and sanitation. Conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

"World Water Resources Day" is a day dedicated to the importance of water resources on the planet. It is observed on March 22 and aims to raise awareness about water scarcity, highlight the importance of access to clean water and sanitation. This day is also aimed at informing society about the need for sustainable use and protection of water resources.
Clean Water and Sanitation
Access to clean water is a major issue for many countries around the world. Protecting and efficiently using water resources is important not only from an ecological perspective but also from social and economic viewpoints. The lack of clean water and sanitation is a leading cause of the spread of many diseases, and their absence negatively impacts economic development and public health.
Conservation and Sustainable Use of Oceans, Seas, and Marine Resources for Sustainable Development
The significance of this day is not limited to inland water resources but also involves the protection of ocean and marine ecosystems. Oceans and seas make up a large portion of the world’s water resources, and their ecological balance affects the health of the entire planet.
Moreover, the ecosystems of oceans provide essential natural resources for humans, such as food, clean air, climate stability, and tourism resources. Therefore, preventing ocean and sea pollution, sustainable use of fishery resources, and protecting marine ecosystems are crucial tasks for sustainable development.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 6, World Water Day is celebrated annually on 22 March to raise awareness of the importance of freshwater resources and promote sustainable management. On this occasion, an event was held with 3rd year bachelor students of the specialty “scientific biology” and 1st year PhD doctoral students of the specialty “geobotany” under the supervision of Asem Tleuzhanovna Mamurova, associate professor of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/47/193(link is external) on December 22, 1992, declaring March 22 as World Water Day. This Day has been observed annually since 1993, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) contained in Chapter 18 (Freshwater) of Agenda 21. States were invited to dedicate the Day, according to the national context, to specific activities such as promoting public awareness through the publication and distribution of documentaries and organizing conferences, round tables, seminars and exhibitions on water conservation and development.
